THESE CARB SHIELDS  WILL NOT WORK WITH THE PIONEER
It is very important to keep water out of your engine but these shields, or anything you come up with even remotely like them, will not work.  The engine will run very badly.  You have to get a lot of fresh air to your carburetor.  You can NOT restrict it with something like these.  You can NOT have anything around the sides or above your carb opening, there needs to be open space all around it.  We like to see at least 3/4" minimum to the side of your boat.  You may be able to get away with a 1/2" from the carb to the side of your boat if the space all around is open and you have an air scoop very close to the carburetor to blow plenty of fresh air around it.  You want to blow away the spray that comes out of the carburetor, you do NOT want to suck the spray back in.  That means good air scoops coming in close to the carburetor and plenty of openings to let the air out of the back of the boat.   It is also very important to have really good air circulation on the other side of the boat to get the pipe heat out of the boat.  The Whiplash and the Backlash Hydros with the pipe on the outside of the cowl is an excellent idea, however those two boats need a lot more air space around the carburetor. These are excellent boats but you need to modify the carb side of the stock cowl or replace the cowl with possibly an improved aftermarket cowling.
